The western part of Nepal hasn’t been much explored and remained aloof of modernization due to nonfriendly topography and harsh climatic conditions. So, the cultural and natural beauty of the place is still untarnished and tempts the visitors by offering a ‘stepping in another world-like experience’. Among many others, the Khaptad area is an unparalleled gift of nature that never fails to amaze visitors with its exquisite landscapes, lakes; flora, and fauna where time seems to be standstill yet many days pass like a flash.

How to get there?

It is located in Sudurpaschim province (far western) and touches districts like Doti, Bajura, Bajhang, and Achham. It has multiple entry points, Attriya Chowk, in Kailali district is the main entrance where buses are available directly from Kathmandu. Airways is connected to Dhangadi, about 9 hour's drive from there take the visitors to Silgarhi Bazar which is another entry point. It can also be reached from Indian soil at Gadda Chowki, Mahendranagar. Khaptad national park has been known as a living garden and natural museum due to the presence of 224 species of medicinal herbs, and 567 species of flowering plants. It harbors 270 species of birds, and sights of pheasants, bulbuls, cuckoos, and eagles are common. Animals species like barking deer, wild dogs, boar, rhesus monkeys, langur monkeys, Himalayan black bears, and yellow-throated marten are sheltered by the park.
The national park also carries spiritual significance, where a famous ascetic, Khaptad Baba, spent many years of his life in isolation, contemplation, and meditation. The hermitage is an important pilgrimage that still vibrates with the reverence of the hermit so the spiritual seekers and the meditative souls find solace here.
